What is 1:1 coaching?

If you’re new to the concept of coaching, that’s understandable! It’s quite a new profession, especially in the world of health and wellness.

Health coaching is a collaborative process during which we set realistic lifestyle related goals, which we gradually work towards, making the changes manageable and therefore sustainable. Instead of giving you a list of foods to eat and not to eat, or a workout routine, and then sending you off to try it for a week or two, until you get bored or overwhelmed and then drop it, I stay with you for at least 3 months to make sure you create new habits at the right pace for you.

The beauty of this approach, is that we avoid the resistance which comes up for most people in the face of drastic change, thus making sure the work we do, and the investment you make, keeps paying off for the rest of your life.

Food and body

Diets don’t work, so it’s time to step out of the vicious cycle of losing and gaining the same 5-10kg and decide to find a way you can eat that you can maintain for the rest of your life. Especially as women, we’re deeply entrenched in diet culture; the world that tells us we have to be hungry and thin to have value. Ironically, and cruelly, it’s this mindset and these diets that consistently damage the metabolism and make it hard to stay at a healthy weight and stop obsessing about food and body image. I would love to help you break away from diets and learn to love food and your body again.

Myth: Eating fewer calories is the only way to lose weight.
Truth: Counting calories doesn’t work because there are many variables which make it next to impossible to be accurate.

Myth: I need to be disciplined and just fight against my cravings.
Truth: The more we resist food, the more we create rules around food, the more we obsess over eating and the harder it becomes not to overeat.

Myth: I will be happy when I reach my goal weight.
Truth: You can be happy at any weight.

‘Ok, so how can I work towards my health and weight goals if I can’t diet?’, you ask.

I work integratively with intuitive and mindful eating practises and in depth mindset work to help unpick the web of confusion and worry around food and diet. My goal is to help you find contentment at any weight, whilst moving towards the healthiest, most sustainable version of yourself.

Hormonal health
for women

We’re given hardly any information about how our hormones and our cycles work. Our hormones are the chemicals which dictate every process in the body. This means that understanding some of the key hormones and how imbalances affect us is crucial. So many women struggle with hormonal imbalances and have no idea how to address this. We’re encouraged to take hormonal birth control to mask symptoms and then wonder why we struggle with fertility issues, extreme menopause symptoms and other issues. I work with women to replenish their bodies, balance their hormones and understand how to give themselves the best chance to stay healthy through each cycle and beyond. If you’re struggling with fertility issues, PCOS, PMD, PMDD, endometriosis or are having problems with or after coming off hormonal birth control, I’d love to help you navigate your way back to balance.

Myth: Hormonal birth control has little effect on my overall health.
Truth: Hormonal birth control not only can mess with your mood and weight, it can cause nutrient deficiencies and gut flora imbalance.

Myth: PCOS and other hormonal imbalances can only be fixed with hormonal birth control.
Truth: Hormonal birth control only masks the symptoms of hormonal imbalances, like placing a sticker over a warning light on the dashboard in your car.

Myth: My cycle is a nuisance.
Truth: Your cycle can be a huge asset. If you learn to sync your lifestyle and work flow with your cycle, you can become more energised and productive than ever before.

‘So how does this work?’

I work to bring the major players in the HPA axis (your hormonal system) back into balance. This means balancing blood sugar, working on reducing stress, supporting detoxification and supporting appropriate sex hormone production.

It’s no secret, we’re all busier and more stressed than ever. Women especially are expected to have a high flying career, be a domestic goddess and super-parent and keep up Gwyneth Paltrow-level self care. It’s exhausting and unrealistic. So let’s take some of the pressure off and see where we can find more breathing space and create a realistic routine which supports rather than drains you.

Myth: Life is hard work, that’s just the way it is.
Truth: It doesn’t have to be. We all have the responsibility and ability to create the life we want. When we take the right steps and learn the right tools, you can create space where everything flows much more easily.

Myth: If I go with the flow, it’ll all work out.
Truth: Going with the flow usually means you don't know what you want and are waiting for something to be presented to you. Going with the flow means relinquishing power and choice over your reality. Going with the flow usually means if you go anywhere, it likely won't be forward. Yes we must be open to opportunity and to allow our plans and desires to develop. But we first must decide where our flow is taking us.

Myth: I can’t afford to spend time and money working on my stress.
Truth: You can’t afford not to. Stress is the root cause of most physical and mental health problems. We can all reallocate time and funds towards what really matters: our emotional, mental and physical wellbeing.

‘How can you help me then?’, I hear you say.

I’m blessed to be widely trained, allowing me to help you tackle the different types of internal and external stressors. I’m realistic so I understand the changes have to be incremental and practical. My approach is to go wide rather than deep, meaning we touch on each area of your life enough to tip the scales in your favour overall.

Wellbeing for the
whole family

So often, my clients want to work not only on their own health and lifestyle but also on their family’s. Knowing how and what to buy and cook. Knowing how to communicate healthily in relationships. Knowing how to encourage enthusiasm towards movement and a happy mindset. These things don’t necessarily come naturally and need some cultivating and refinement.

This is my most pragmatism-centric area of focus. It’s my solution for busy mums who want nothing more than to help their families thrive but struggle to know where to start or to keep all the balls in the air.

As a mum, you’re probably used to always being the one lending support and giving time and energy. This is your opportunity to receive support and guidance in a safe, judgement free space dedicated to making sure your time and energy is well spent and that you have enough left over for yourself.
